Pet Policy

We are a pet friendly campground, however, if you bring them they must be leashed at all times and if you are not at the site they must be kept inside. If they become a nuisance you will be asked to leave or take them to a kennel

Regular Rates, Reservations, & Cancellation

Reservations must be made with a credit card. A confirmation letter will be sent to the Reserving Party detailing the guaranteed reservation information. A minimum deposit of $20.00 will be charged to vour card to hold vour reservation. You mav cancel vour reservation up to 3 davs prior to your stay for a $20 cancellation fee. Upon arrival and check in at the campground the remaining balance will be charged to your card. If making reservations for others, the party making the reservations is responsible for all the sites and extra person charges, and will be charged the total amount. Cancellation notices must be submitted in writing by e-mail, or letter. If a cancellation notice is received less than three (3) days in advance of reserved date, then the total reserved nights will be charged to the credit card. Site Rates per night do not include tax.

Sturgis Rally Rates & Reservations

Rally rates are in effect August 4th - August 11th. Reservations for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally will be accepted starting on January 16th at 6:00 am MDT.

Requests Submitted Before January 16th Will Not Be Considered
Rally Reservations Are Paid In Full At The Time Of Booking And Are Non-Refundable

Where is Steel Wheel Campground located and what are nearby attractions?

Steel Wheel Campground & Cabins is located on US Hwy 385, just 6 miles south of historic Deadwood, South Dakota. We’re centrally located in the Black Hills, near major landmarks like Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, and numerous ATV/snowmobile trails, lakes, and hiking paths.

What types of camping and lodging options are available?

We offer a variety of accommodations including full hookup RV sites (30/50 amp), electric-only RV sites, camping cabins, and park model cabins. Please note that pets are welcome at campsites but not allowed inside cabins.

Do you offer food and drink options on site?

Yes! From Memorial Day through Labor Day, our deli and food court serve a variety of meals, beverages, and daily specials—perfect for guests who prefer to dine on-site.

Can I rent a UTV or get trail access directly from the campground?

Absolutely. UTV and Roxor rentals are available on-site through Mad Peak Rentals. Trail passes can be purchased at the Trading Post, and road permits for ATVs are available through the Lawrence County Treasurer’s office.

What are the internet and cell service options at the campground?

We offer 3 Mbps wireless internet to all guests. AT&T 4G coverage is reliable, and we provide a Verizon booster near the camp store to improve connectivity for other carriers.

Are pets allowed at the campground?

Yes, pets are welcome at campsites as long as they are leashed and never left unattended outside. However, pets are not allowed in cabins. Please clean up after your pet—failure to follow the policy may result in removal from the campground.
